Abstract
The study explores the role of art therapy in enhancing the well-being and emotional expression of elderly Chinese immigrants in the United States. Amidst challenges such as social isolation, language barriers, and acculturation difficulties, art therapy sessions provide a valuable platform for this demographic to engage with their life experiences and contemplate themes such as death and legacy. Conducted over five weeks in Philadelphia's Chinatown, this project involved elderly Chinese participants who engaged in art-making that facilitated a review of their life experiences and encouraged expression of personal emotions and satisfaction. This paper highlights the effectiveness of art therapy in addressing the unique needs of elderly immigrants and underscores the importance of culturally sensitive therapeutic approaches in fostering psychological well-being and social integration.
