Abstract

Arts--Management Arts administrators Black people Diversity in the workplace POC Illinois--Chicago Leadership
This thesis is an exploration into how arts leaders from marginalized groups are driving transformative changes within Chicago's vibrant arts landscape. The focus lies on understanding the experiences and initiatives of individuals of color and women who hold leadership roles in this space. Through interviews and review of literary texts, this study gains insights into the obstacles they navigate and the strategies they employ to foster greater representation, inclusivity, and equity in Chicago's arts community. This investigative approach aims to shed light on the invaluable contributions of these leaders and their efforts to create a more diverse and welcoming environment for artistic expression and engagement within their communities. Although the research suggests that Chicago's leadership strives for inclusivity and diversity, further investigation may be necessary to determine if art leaders in the city are truly more diverse compared to other cities across the United States.
