Abstract

Arts--Management Art--Study and teaching Music--Instruction and study
The following research explores the answer to the question: What are the elements, components, and characteristics of successful music education programs, offered by arts organizations, for K-12 students in the Philadelphia area? Elements, components, and characteristics are generally defined as personnel used, time spent, materials used, and logistical nature of programming. Interviews were conducted with administrators from three organizations in Philadelphia: Kimmel Cultural Campus, Opera Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Data collected from the interviews is compared to current and past literature about the impact of arts education and the best practices and challenges that accompany arts education partnerships. According to data collected and literature reviewed, arts education partnerships offered by arts organizations have several factors that can determine their success or failure. Challenges such as miscommunication, logistical concerns, and a lack of resources have been reported as constraints for partnerships. Communication, professional development, engagement, and effective evaluation are some of the ways that arts organizations can ensure success in their educational partnerships.
