Art therapy Fairy tales--Therapeutic use Substance abuse--Treatment
This paper describes the development of an art therapy method that uses fairy tale imagery in a group session with adults diagnosed with substance use disorder. This method was developed to allow individuals to process past traumatic experiences through the use of metaphor. After implementation of the method, there were noticeable themes that highlighted increased defense mechanisms, as well as group universality. There are recommendations for improvement of the method, as well as reflection of the process and insight for future exploration and research.
