Abstract
This grant proposal culminating project is a template for advocating and educating potential funders on the benefits of dance/movement therapy (DMT) in the treatment of female survivors of human trafficking. Trauma researchers and clinicians, recognize trauma is stored in the body, therefore, to treat trauma, body-oriented approaches should be included in treatment. There is a lack of mental health resources available for this population and DMT, a body-oriented approach to psychotherapy, is one option to fill this gap. DMT offers a unique way of treating trauma using movement to address both physical and psychological trauma. The completed grant will encourage funding to hire and support a dance/movement therapist in housing facilities for survivors of trafficking.
