Abstract
Individuals recovering from spinal cord injury (SCI) must navigate a complex network of medical rehabilitation. Following acute emergent care, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals offer stays ranging from a few weeks to several months to allow for recovery and preparation for the next transition of care. For patients of inpatient rehabilitation during the COVID-19 pandemic, social supports were limited at a time where they were most valuable. An informed practice approach and application was developed to combat these effects as well as to address standard treatment goals of fostering acceptance of injury and relief from the symptoms associated with SCI. Following a review of literature in music therapy, mindfulness-based practice, and spinal cord rehabilitation, an informed practice approach and application are outlined and reflected upon. Implications for future practice and research are discussed.
