Abstract
This thesis examines Washington, DC area arts organizations that have implemented mission-related programming at their galas, seeking to understand what techniques are used to keep donors engaged at the event. This research demonstrates that successful fundraising galas of arts organizations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area provide a balance of highlighting the organization's mission while creating a social and entertaining atmosphere utilizing various gala techniques. Provided in this thesis are recommendations and examples of fundraising events and gala techniques for nonprofit arts organizations to engage donors and meet their expectations. Methods I used in my research include interviews and surveys with arts nonprofits in the Washington, DC area.
