Abstract
This Culminating Project (CP) delves into the dynamic realm of Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) by focusing on the intricate interplay between the dance/movement therapist's body and the Therapeutic Movement Relationship (TMR). Grounded in the principles of DMT, this paper explores how the therapist's embodied experiences shape and influence the therapeutic process and discusses its outcomes within and outside of the therapeutic process. Through an in-depth analysis of the therapist's personal philosophy and role within the TMR, the paper underscores the significance of a selfsupervision process that enhances awareness, empathy, and attunement that further contribute to meaningful therapeutic interactions. Additionally, the paper reflects on the therapist's embodied responses to moments of dissonance within the TMR, offering insights into the therapeutic potential of tension and conflict. By interrogating the complexities of the therapist-client relationship and the embodied nature of DMT practice, this paper aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the therapeutic landscape and pave the way for more inclusive and empowering approaches to healing.
