Abstract
Research has shown caregivers are susceptible to burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma leading to decreased quality of life which can consist of physical and mental ailments. Literature supports the growing need for caregivers to address self-care on a mind and body level. Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) addresses both mind and body allowing caregivers to utilize movement to find comfort in their bodies and to assess the stressors experienced through daily caregiving. This culminating project was in response to this need seen in the caregiver population, both family and professional, through the application of sustainable self-care applying a dance/movement therapy lens. A self-care workshop for caregivers is presented involving self-talk, mindset and movement exploration to integrate healthy habits and create a sustainable life patterns and rhythms. As a benefit of this workshop caregivers could experience more successful self-care resulting in better quality of life and care.
