Abstract
Art therapy Homeless teenagers
Adolescents experiencing homelessness are a vulnerable population that lack resources and support. They may benefit from the development of a community and the opportunity to voice their concerns and stories. Some of the goals of art-therapy and art-based community projects are to create connections, empowerment, and reduce stigma. A community engagement project was implemented with adolescents residing in a residential treatment facility where a ceramic tile mural was created. This project aimed to explore connection and community with adolescents experiencing homelessness and provide a platform to be heard through art making. Recommendations are made for art therapists interested in smaller arts-based community projects based on the literature and my own experiences.
