Abstract
Although there is growing literature on leadership succession planning for the arts, the field of Arts Administration lacks substantial research on the subject, especially that addressing issues of becoming a new executive-level leader for an arts organization. How do executive level leaders prepare for entering leadership positions in arts organizations? My expected findings will help new nonprofit arts leaders, as well as leaders in transition, by providing a model that will support their transition and entrance into arts organizations. The supporting research and information will be examined and I expect to produce leadership change techniques, successful processes, and a helpful guide to and for the next generation of new leaders in arts organization in Philadelphia and other urban settings.
