Abstract
The application of computer graphics in video games is experiencing updates and iterations every year. The threshold of using the volume rendering technique has been eliminated by the development of various toolkits. When those toolkits are applied for volumetric cloud making, an issue that has not been perfectly solved is that the shape of the clouds is often determined by noise only. When there is a specific need for defining purposeful clouds shape which may change or animate over time, the current toolkits show some limitations on flexibility. This research uses existing toolkits to examine whether users can customize the shape of volumetric clouds with aesthetics, potentials of practical usage, and acceptable system performance. Additionally, there is a new Nested Meshes approach proposed for volume rendering in shapes, as well as few tiny extensions made above-existed toolkit. The conclusion classifies the features and using conditions of each toolkit based on the respective approach.
