Abstract
The resurgence of nostalgia for physical and analog experiences has sparked interest in the fusion of modern gaming with vintage arcade hardware. This thesis explores the hardware, software, and design challenges of presenting contemporary video games through a retro arcade cabinet from the 1990s. By retaining the original hardware and integrating modern computing capabilities, the study aims to recreate the authentic arcade experience while adapting it for modern games. A physical prototype was created, using a modified arcade cabinet to run modern games via an external computer connection. The study revealed significant design challenges, including the readability of modern fonts on vintage displays, color fidelity issues, and maintaining consistent visual quality. Adjustments were made to improve text clarity, color contrast, and overall display performance. This research contributes to the field of digital media by offering a framework for adapting modern games to retro hardware, preserving the nostalgic charm while enhancing user experience.
