Abstract
The purpose of this study is to assess a new technology within the TV industry, OpenAP. Since the rise of cable TV, advertising has driven revenue for the TV industry. Recently, the ease of streaming video via the internet has brought forth many digital TV viewing offerings, such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. These digital platforms, which offer ad-free TV viewing, challenge the business model of the TV industry. The TV industry is in need of a solution that can help maintain viewership for ad-supported TV. Technology and TV companies unite through OpenAP, in an effort to improve the ad viewing experiences of viewers through advanced advertising. This assessment aims to determine whether OpenAP has built an ecosystem that can support the long-term sustainability of ad-supported TV.
