This study examined the personality profiles of high-performance women's basketball players using the NEO Five-Factor Personality Structure. Results were compared to the literature on personality and sports related to gender, race, team sports, and basketball performance. In addition, basketball efficiency data was compared to personality data. Women's sports have made incredible strides since the advent of Title IX in 1972. However, hidden and apparent challenges may make entry into this profession challenging and daunting. Participation would require specific personality characteristics, such as being tough-minded and flexible, when entering the high-performance basketball world. The results analyzed and interpreted within this context will aid in learning more about what personality structures are essential in preparing for a woman's high-performance basketball career.
