Abstract

Television and politics Political and social views
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects late night television has on its viewers' political opinions and beliefs from their point of view. The study specifically evaluated if viewers are more informed, have their opinions changed or choose who to vote for because of watching late night and if the responses are correlated with their political affiliation. The study included a 16 question survey taken by 213 people that watch late night television. Overall, the results of the study suggest that late night television viewers' political affiliation determines how it affects them though generally viewers are more informed. With 82.6% of respondents saying they have done research on topics covered on late night, the study showed that late night television is a jumping off point for viewers' political participation but not the driving force behind their views or how they vote.
