Abstract
This culminating project is an Informed Practice Approach and Application, grounded in extant theory and literature and the author's own therapeutic practice. It explores how virtual reality (VR) can be incorporated into Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT). This project was developed during a six-and-a-half-month internship at a university in an urban region of the United States. This approach focuses exploring what theoretical approaches and existing DMT interventions could be used in VR within a telehealth experience. By selecting approaches and developing interventions to meet the client's needs, this project discusses the diverse ways VR could be incorporated into DMT. Current literature was reviewed from relevant topics including virtual reality history & design, therapeutic VR interventions, medical applications. Three case narratives were provided to display techniques used during sessions. This project shows a need for more education and research on the topic. Suggestions for future applications were provided.
