Weight variability (WV) is the term used to describe the small yet consistent variations in weight that occurs over the course of weeks to months in humans. While WV occurs to some degree in all people, the reason behind why some experience higher WV than others remains unknown. This paper serves as a comprehensive review of the current literature on WV, with the main aim of the paper being to determine whether the level of WV that individuals across a wide range of populations experience can have predictive power regarding their long-term weight change, as well as to hypothesize potential factors and reasons as to why some people experience higher WV than others.
