Abstract
This Culminating Project paper is a synthesis of an exploration with Mindfulness-Based Dance/Movement Therapy (MB-DMT) in a high school setting with adolescents managing anxiety. From experience, I created context and population guidelines for future application. I explored ways in which nonjudgement, present focused, and compassion are integrated into the DMT therapeutic setting. This paper includes a review of the current literature to support, guidelines for application, a clinical example, and future considerations. As a result of exploration, I found the connection between the use of Pause in MB-DMT (Schweitzer, 2019) and the DMT theory of exertion and recuperation (Bartenieff, 2002). Finding that each emphasizing the need to acknowledge the body's natural rhythm for action and rest. Supporting a student's ability to develop coping skills to manage anxiety applicable across contexts. I consider social and cultural factors that influence the process in need of future development. I discuss future potential, implications, and additional considerations needed.
