This research paper analyzes how the Philadelphia film sector became to be and how it has affected the careers of female filmmakers of color who currently reside or work in the Philadelphia region. In doing so I have included a literature review detailing the history of the Philadelphia region's film beginnings, mainstream film as it connects to the issues women of color face and organizations who dedicated their mission to helping filmmakers of color within the Philadelphia region. I conducted an in-depth case study about four female filmmakers of color within the Philadelphia region. This case study unveils the truths about their continued battle for equity, sustainability, equality, and inclusion. A key component that the four female filmmakers mentioned was the lack of support for their projects. Due to this they have relied on their own networks of support between other filmmakers of color collectives and organizations.
