Abstract
This article proposes a novel solenoid magnetic coupler structure for underwater charging with two achievements. First, a high-power density of 350.4 kW/m 2 is achieved in a saltwater environment. Second, a strong axial misalignment tolerance is achieved, in which a 100-mm-long receiver can maintain 76.1% of the well-aligned power with a 70-mm mismatch. The uniqueness of this design is a split-winding transmitter coupled with a narrow-band receiver with only five turns. High-power underwater experiments are conducted for validation. It achieves maximum power transfer of 15.41 kW with 95.32% DC-DC efficiency in a saltwater environment. When the axial misalignment varies within 70 mm, the output power is above 11.73 kW, and the DC-DC efficiency is maintained higher than 95.27%.
