A one-step method to synthesize N,N′-bis(4′-aminophenyl)-1,4-quinonenediimine and its derivatives

Abstract
A convenient, one-step method has been developed for the synthesis of N,N′-bis(4′-aminophenyl)-1,4-quinonenediimine and its derivatives from the oxidation of p-phenyl-enediamine in the presence of aniline or substituted anilines in an acidic aqueous medium. These diimine compounds can be readily reduced to afford their corresponding diamine derivatives.
N,N′-Bis(4′-aminophenyl)-1,4-quinonenediimine and its prepard for the oxidation of 1 eq. p-phenylenedianine and prepared from the oxidation of 1 eq. p-phenylenediamine and 2 eq. various anilines in 1 M HCl. These diimines can be readily reduced to their corresponding diamine derivatives.
