A stochastic model of human reproduction accomodating conjugal histories
Mathematical biosciences, v 24(1)
1975
Abstract
Most stochastic models of human reproduction ignore, apart from age of marriage, many social phenomena that may affect population growth. In this paper steps are taken toward the development of a model of conjugal histories with respect to the states single, married, divorced, and widowed. The most novel feature of the paper is the development of a computational formula for the mean of the potential birth process in the presence of conjugal changes, which, among other things, may be applied in the study of the impact of illegitimacy on population growth.
