APPLIED SOCIOLOGY IN THE YEAR 2000: POSSIBLE IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY
Journal of applied sociology - Society for Applied Sociology (U.S.), Vol.5, pp.33-40
01 Jan 1988
Abstract
Applied Sociology is unnecessarily hamstrung by five major weaknesses: the propensity of practitioners to go it alone, make poor use of data, fail to disseminate findings, exert little influence over policy-making, and divide bitterly in a squabble between populists and elitists. Remarkable gains in high-tech, off-the-shelf items make possible substantial reform gains, if and when applied sociologists "come of age."
