Abstract
The Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities (ADPD) is an SCDA Affiliate organization consisting of an extensive group aiming to provide comprehensive dental care to improve special care dentistry practice at individual and community levels. In April 2023, the ADPD community came together to review and discuss the SCDA work plan and prepare the framework and timeline for implementation of the new SCDA initiatives during the Affiliate Board meetings. Cur-rent ADPD President Dr David Fray and President-Elect Dr Hakan Tuncer led these efforts. Dr Fray has made signifi-cant contributions to Special Needs Dentistry through his work at the SCDA, as past president of the AADMD from 2016-2018, and work at The University of Texas School of Dentistry Houston, Texas. He developed the ADPD oper-ational plan and oversaw the creation of the Board. We thank Dr Fray for his commitment and dedication to the ADPD board and his continuous support to the Board. The ADPD Board has been charged with addressing issues of immense importance to persons with disabilities at both the individual and community levels. The current ADPD Board consists of the following members: President Dr. David Fray, President-Elect Dr. A. Hakan Tuncer, Vice President Dr. Dan Burch, Secretary Dr. Jacob Dent, Com-munications Officer Dr. Noorpreet Kaur, and key execu-tive board members Dr. Robert Rada, Dr. Laura Holena, Dr. Orpheus Triplett, Dr. Nicholas Gagner, Dr. Michelle Ziegler, Dr. Michael Chan, Dr. Jeffery W. Johnston, Dr. Anthony Herro, and Dr. Maria Sofia Lozada. The newly formed Board participated in small break-out groups and significant group discussions about the ADPD's mission, reviewed CODA standards, and identi-fied the challenges to provide better oral healthcare for persons with disabilities. Their discussions were inte-grated into a working draft containing the high-priority issues such as development of fellowship programs, den-tal transitioning of youth and adolescents with special health care needs to adulthood, insurance, and reimburse-ment for special care dentistry services, credentialing of general dentists, improving educational programs, devel-opment of ADPD communications, and efforts to improve integrated care for persons with disabilities when work-
