Abstract

Clinical Judgment (Not Diagnosis) Cognitive Therapy Female Human Major Depression Treatment Planning
During the 1998 World Congress on Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, the participants in this symposium (Advances in Cognitive Therapies: Therapeutic Strategies) addressed the treatment of a 27-yr-old female depressed patient (named Silvia) from each of their own theoretical perspectives. The purpose was to observe the differences in conceptualization and treatment of a common case, using newer cognitive approaches. The new cognitive perspectives attempt to improve on previous approaches, address new areas of concern and treatment, and establish empirically validated treatments. The proponents of the cognitive approaches included here have a common interest: the development of the cognitive psychotherapies. Silvia's personal history is described, and her diagnostic assessment is provided. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
