Advances in Optical Coherence Tomography for Glaucoma Diagnosis and Monitoring

Abstract
Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy and the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, affecting approximately 80 million individuals. The disease remains asymptomatic until substantial structural damage has occurred. Advances in ocular imaging, particularly optical coherence tomography, have revolutionized glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring by enabling high-resolution, quantitative assessment of minute structural changes in key structures, such as the optic nerve head, retinal nerve fiber layer, and inner macular layers. There is growing interest in identifying novel tools for disease detection and monitoring, including new biomarkers, and employing artificial intelligence to facilitate early and personalized diagnosis and ultimately prevent vision loss.
