Algorithms for a stochastic model of human fertility under contraception
Mathematical biosciences, v 38(3), pp 217-246

Abstract
A basic component of a computer system, designed to yield—among other things—solutions to the problem of estimating the number of acceptors of contraception required to attain a crude birth rate target, is a model predicting subsequent fertility of a woman after she accepts contraception for the first time. Such a model, accomodating not only age and parity dependence but also switching among methods of contraception, is developed in this paper. Attention is focused on the construction of algorithms necessary for incorporating the model into a computer simulation system. The basic theme underlying the construction of the stochastic process presented in this paper is that of linking together a sequence of absorbing, age-dependent semi-Markov processes.
