Abstract

Allylic compounds Chemical properties Extraction (Chemistry) Lithium compounds Magnesium compounds Niobium alloys Structure Usage
Addition of Nb[Cl.sub.5] or Nb[Br.sub.5] to a series of magnesium, lithium, or potassium allylic or propargylic alkoxides which directly provides allylic or allenic halides is described. The niobium pentahalide halogenations which afford essentially pure (E)-allylic or -allenic halides after extraction could be used to obtain range of aliphatic and aromatic alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones.
