Summary Despite its deadly nature, apoptosis has rapidly become a fashionable area of research in a number of areas ranging from oncology to immunology to cardilogy. The challenge for EM researchers is to convert recent developments in the field of apoptosis as outlined in the accompanying review into mechanistic insights, diagnostic modalities, and novel therapies.
