Abstract
Researchers, policy-makers, and clinicians can be guided in their efforts by data from randomized controlled trials, one of the strongest possible research designs. Sheerin et al. (see record 2026-26025-001) provide a valuable review on the available evidence for youth in the juvenile legal system. This facilitates research-informed decision-making on clinical and legal decisions made with such individuals. There are also concerns about excessive focus on such research, however, as it might have the inadvertent effect of drawing more youth into the juvenile system in lieu of providing behavioral health services to youth following diversion from justice involvement. This is discussed further in the comment. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
