Journal of interprofessional education & practice, v 29, 100555
Dec 2022
Abstract
Healthcare professionals experienced increased levels of stress, and this stress has only been exacerbated over the past two years. The COVID pandemic, workplace violence, and professional shortages are all factors that have contributed to increased levels of stress and burnout. Mindfulness is a self-care strategy that healthcare professionals can use to mitigate the negative effects of stress. Mindfulness can be described as intentionally paying attention in the present moment, non-judgmentally. The research illustrates that individuals can experience positive benefits from mindfulness with short, daily practices. This article describes how healthcare professionals can infuse mindfulness into their daily routine through the use of a 1-min breathing space, mindful moments, and mindfulness during daily activities.
