Abstract
This article points up problems with typical solid waste landfill covers such as compacted clay. It recommends methods and materials for better covers which address such problems as temperature extremes, wet/dry cycles, plant root penetration, settling, slippage or creep, vehicle loading, erosion, earthquake damage, moisture changes, and gas accumulations.
