Abstract

Critical care Intensive care Intervention Liver Medical prognosis Mortality Patients Sepsis
Rationale: Patients presenting with decompensated liver failure carry a high mortality risk, and admissions to the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) warrant interventions that may nonetheless result in negative outcomes. The dramatic rate of mortality in this patient population underscores the urgency to clinically assess disease severity so that early interventions may be employed in an effort to reduce negative outcomes.
