Abstract
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a 178-page text that reviews current standards and techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and presents various new concepts and recent advances in the field. The book includes chapters on traumatic cardiac arrest, the "new" CPR, brain resuscitation, and a section on legal aspects of resuscitation as well as a review of such standard topics as defibrillation and drug therapy. A perusal of the list of contributing authors will identify an interesting mix of 17 contributors, including emergency physicians, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, pediatricians, and a paramedic.After a brief introductory chapter is a detailed and academic discussion of ventilation during CPR. This section presents no new concepts but is a scholarly overview of basic physiology. The second half of this chapter contains basic material and includes a discussion of airway treatment, bagmask ventilation, intubation, and treatment of the obstructed airway.
