Abstract
Significant cost savings and increased landfill volume are some of the benefits obtained from using geotextile filters in landfill leachate collection systems. The possibility of excessive clogging may occur but soil-retention problems occurring under typical leachate conditions at the base of the landfill are not likely. Engineering designers are encouraged to perform further laboratory experiments to address the safety issues raised concerning the use of geotextile filters in landfill collection systems.
