Abstract

Cobalt Nitrides Photolysis Pyrolysis Telomerase
Byline: Jeremiah J. Scepaniak, Charles G. Margarit, Ranko P. Bontchev, Jeremy M. Smith Keywords: crystal structure; scorpionates; tris(carbene)borates The four-coordinate Co.sub.II complex, (azido-I*N)[1,1,a[sup.2],1a[sup.2]a[sup.2]-(phenylboranetriyl)tris(3-tert-butyl-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene)]cobalt(II), [Co(C.sub.27H.sub.38BN.sub.6)(N.sub.3)], (1), denoted PhB(t-BuIm).sub.3CoN.sub.3, was prepared by the reaction of the corresponding chloride complex with NaN.sub.3. One-electron oxidation results in the isolation of the five-coordinate Co.sub.III complex, bis(azido-I*N)[1,1,a[sup.2],1a[sup.2]a[sup.2]-(phenylboranetriyl)tris(3-tert-butyl-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene)]cobalt(III), [Co(C.sub.27H.sub.38BN.sub.6)(N.sub.3).sub.2], (2), denoted PhB(t-BuIm).sub.3Co(N.sub.3).sub.2. Attempts to prepare cobalt nitrides by thermolysis or photolysis of these complexes were unsuccessful.
