Common rule or common ignorance?
PsycCritiques, v 56(18), pp No Pagination Specified-No Pagination Specified

Abstract
Reviews the book, Ethical imperialism: Institutional review boards and the social sciences, 1965–2009 by Zachary M. Schrag (see record 2010-23188-000). Have you been harassed by an institutional review board (IRB), as I have, because its members did not understand your research, felt it was too sensitive, required informed consent where that was impossible, or simply could not comprehend the regulations under which they were operating? If so, you will enjoy reading this book. On the other hand, if you are an IRB administrator or dedicated member, you will view this work as a biased diatribe intent on undermining the rights of human subjects to be protected from undue risks and inadequate information. As is typical of critiques of current policy, the text is weak on solutions. Fewer than three pages are devoted to alternative models. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
