Connecting the Public Library with Immigrant-Serving Community-Based Organizations in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley Region

Abstract
Collaborating with local community organizations, particularly those that serve immigrant populations, public libraries can connect with services available in their communities and promote best practices for serving immigrants. This study employed semi-structured interviews with staff from immigrant-serving community organizations and the public library in a small city in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley region. Inductive thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed recurring themes and shared perspectives. Findings indicated that public libraries have significant opportunities to strengthen their engagement with community organizations to better understand and address the needs of their immigrant residents.
