Abstract
In 1989 outreach research, 1,440 injection drug users in Newark & Jersey City, NJ, not enrolled in treatment, were interviewed regarding drug use, sexual practices, health, acquired immune deficiency syndrome knowledge, & demographics. Of Ss, 667 tested HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)-positive. Univariate & multivariate analysis identifies 13 variables correlated with HIV infection, with years of injection drug use showing the strongest relationship. Future research is suggested on the demographic characteristics & drug use practices of addicts. 5 Tables, 36 References. Adapted from the source document.
