Document Delivery and the Rise of the Automated Midwife

Abstract
Focusing on interlibrary services, a review of how automation has affected document delivery is offered. Advances in technology may challenge some modes of thinking about the process and highlight some new directions for developing information delivery. The article concludes with a speculation on what role librarians might have in the emerging environment of greater automated delivery of information.
