Abstract
The effect of TiN grain size and content on the structure, phase composition, strength, hardness, wear resistance, oxidation resistance, and resistivity of hot-pressed silicon nitride-based ceramics was studied. Ceramics with 20 wt% TiN possessed maximum strength within 20-1200 C. Strength vs temperature curves were plotted in the range of 20-1400 C, the reasons for variations of ceramics properties with test temperatures were discussed. Composites with less than or equal to 30 wt% TiN can find application as structural or cutting tool materials. 9 refs.
