Abstract
Professionalism in the health professions is an increasingly important characteristic given the rise of consumerism, higher demand of accountability for patient and population health outcomes, and the expanding number of health professions with concomitant specialization. This study was conducted to learn how the undergraduate degree programs in a health professions college in a US university had explicated professionalism via a review of select academic documents. The study selected and analyzed documents at the university, college, and degree program levels. It was evident at all levels of documentation that students are expected to be joining a profession after graduation. All documents expressed the importance of being professional. Academic administrators at all levels of a university, especially those within health professions, should routinely examine major academic documents to ensure that professionalism is well articulated and given its due importance.
