Efficient Luminance and Saturation Processing Techniques for Color Images
Journal of visual communication and image representation, v 8(3), pp 263-277
Sep 1997
Abstract
Processing of digital color images is often performed in a coordinate system related to the human visual system's perceptual attributes—luminance, hue, and saturation. However, the coordinate transformations of the color image data can be computationally intensive. Several efficient computational techniques are presented here for processing the luminance and saturation components of a color image. These techniques effectively eliminate the need for computing the coordinate transformations. A theoretical analysis and experimental results show the effects of these techniques in various color coordinate systems.
