Failure to treat pain: No more excuses

Abstract
Minimizing a patient's suffering is an important part of medical treatment. Lawyers can cite an emerging standard of care to support a client's claim for inadequate pain management. The doctrine of negligent infliction of emotional distress has the potential to offer a remedy to vulnerable family members who watch a loved one suffer needlessly in pain.
