Abstract
This study investigates how people perceive fairness, generosity, and selfishness in specific situations. 80 children (20 4-, 6-, 8-, and 10-year-olds) and 40 adults (college students), evenly divided by sex, were asked to make judgments to stories about these concepts, for example, the rights derived from the ownership of a toy. In adults the highest agreement was found with respect to concepts of fairness and the lowest agreement with respect to concepts of selfishness. In general, the concepts for which there was the highest agreement in adults were developed the earliest in childhood.
