Ground state phase transitions in multilevel extensions of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

Abstract
We study ground state energy phase transitions in a system of N identical nucleons, each with internal dynamical group SU (r) under the assumption of quadrupole coupling between one level pair. If the coupling is sufficiently strong, a phase transition can occur which is second order if the interaction involves the ground state and first order if it involves two excited states. These results are rigorous in the so-called “classical limit”.
