Abstract
A solid‐state holmium3+ –YLF laser‐based temperature‐jump apparatus has been designed, constructed, and used to produce sudden 2–10 °C temperature increases in aqueous media. This temperature jump technique can be used to perturb biological macromolecular assemblies, such as single skeletal muscle fibers, without their disruption and sufficiently rapidly to elicit biologically relevant kinetic information.
