Influence of Ferroelectric Polymer Layers on Liquid Crystal Alignment
Polymeric materials science and engineering, Vol.93

Abstract
The efficiency of liquid crystal (LC) based devices 1,2 is largely influenced by its alignment on the substrate. In this work, we investigate the possibility of using a ferroelectric polymer film as an alignment layer for LC devices including displays. The polymer layer can be used to record polarization states (charge orientation). The resulting polarization directions will influence the LC alignment. Thus better LC alignment will be achieved resulting in a reduction of the switching voltage.
