Abstract
Kinetic studies of monomeric sarcosine oxidase (MSOX), a flavoenzyme that catalyzes the oxidative demethylation of sarcosine, N-methylglycine) have been carried out using alternate substrates, sarcosine, and a substrate analogue. MSOX does not form a 4a-adduct with thioglycolate. It does form a charge-transfer complex that goes through an unexpected one-electron-transfer reaction to give the anionic flavin radical.
